10月30日 Gabby-gate updateWell now, Gabby-gate, as it shall no doubt be known, has certainly struck a nerve with many of you. Just take a look at the previous blog post below: more than 1,000 comments - most of you saying it was the wrong result but a good few offering plenty of other opinions (it's always good to see a range of views). One person said they voted for Kate Garraway 20 times! A number of viewers have also contacted the BBC to protest as well. By the way, if you want to relive the weekend's drama MSN has compiled a nice photo gallery of the dancers in action. Monday night's Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two became a must-watch to see the key people's reactions. Here is my pick of the quotes from last night's show: Gabby Logan: "I spent most of Sunday bursting into tears, I was just so shocked. I just didn't want the whole thing to be over." Gabby's dance partner James Jordan: "It was such a shock and I just felt so sorry for Gabby. When we were cuddling at the end she started saying all these nice things in my ear and I just couldn't control my emotions and started crying which I haven't done for years." Head judge Len Goodman: "It was a terrible miscarriage of justice. The real villains of this are the viewers. I was against this system of the judges voting someone out at the end. I liked the other method. "I think it was a disgrace and the public...well...words fail me. "I think it was unfair that I was put into that position [of having to pick between Gabby and Penny Lancaster Stewart] by the BBC. Kenny and Kate should have been in the bottom two." Judge Arlene Phillips: "I felt like an absolute creep having to send Gabby home." Judge Bruno: Those two people [Gabby and Penny] did not deserve to be in the bottom two. No question." Judge Craig Revel Horwood: "I'm not sad, I'm angry. I think the audience need to vote for dance talent rather than cheap celebrity smile." So how do you feel about it all now? She had to dance off against Penny Lancaster Stewart - the two couples having somehow come bottom of the leaderboard after the judges' and viewers' votes had been totalled. This was despite Penny having scored 33 and Gabby 30 from the judges' marking last night, which had put them both in a good position on the leaderboard. Here's how the judges voted the dance-off. Each judge had to say who they wanted to save: Judge Craig: Gabby What do you think of this shock result? Was it the right decision? Who should have been voted out? We'll know by about 7:30pm who is out of the show. Below is our full review including our view, blogger’s wife’s view and highlights of the judges’ views in the order they were given. Scores are also shown as they were given in the show – Craig, Arlene, Len, Bruno. And our Brucie Bonus – our review includes the excellent Mr Forsyth’s enthusiastic comments made as each dance ends. Alesha Dixon and Matthew Cutler - American smooth Our view: Terrific start to the evening. Blogger's wife: Great and very promising for their other ballroom dances. Brucie: What a start. That was wonderful. Head judge Len Goodman: You always turn out a good performance but you lost body contact in hold. Judge Bruno Tonioli: This was great. Your movement and musicality were great. Judge Craig Revel Horwood: I really, really liked it. Amazing control in the spins. Judge Arlene: It wasn't perfect but the glamour of Hollywood was brought to our floor. What an opening for Strictly Come Dancing. 8 8 8 9 = 33 Gabby Logan and James Jordan - samba Our view: The usual Gabby thing: she works really hard, does all the steps but doesn't sparkle. Blogger's wife: I loved the dress. The routine showcased James' dancing talent. She'd benefit from being slightly drunk: she needs to let herself go. Brucie: Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Head judge Len: Your voltas are a little skippy but you did a good job. Judge Bruno: You put so much work into it and it shows. Watch your timing. Judge Craig: Absolutely had massive party feel. Your voltas were limping around like a wounded mule. Judge Arlene: You've got to let the music live within you. 7 7 8 8 = 30 Dominic Littlewood and Lilia Kopylova - American smooth Our view: Should be good enough to keep them in the show. Good fun. Blogger's wife: Light on his feet and elegant to watch. Brucie: That was wonderful. And that life, you must have been at least three feet off the ground. Judge Arlene: This girl has polished you like a diamond. Overall the rhythm was better. Head judge Len: You do a great job every time. Whenever you're behind her you're looking at her bum. You're a bum watcher. Judge Bruno: You have to take the rough with the smooth with you. Judge Craig: I didn't think it was brilliant but what is fantastic is Lilia's clever choreography. She always gives you something that suits you. 6 6 7 7 = 26 Kate Garraway and Anton Du Beke - samba Our view: That's two minutes of my life I shall never get back. I feel robbed. Blogger's wife: Please, please don't vote from them. And Strictly organisers give Anton someone good next time. Brucie: It looks like you've just finished mopping the floor Judge Craig: Entertaining. Sadly for all the wrong reasons. Judge Arlene: More like a dancing quail than a dancing queen. Head judge Len: I could see some improvement. Judge Bruno: A marvellous samba nightmare. You were like a ragdoll being thrown about by Anton. 3 3 6 4 = 16 Brucie tells them they're his favourites. John Barnes and Nicole Cutler - American smooth Our view: Too slow. Bad choice of music. Blogger's wife: Posture improved. Nicole was doing Hollywood; he wasn't. Loved her dress and her hair looks better like that. Brucie: Well done the pair of you. Judge Bruno: You messed it up big time. It's a shame. Judge Craig: The most exciting thing about that dance was the lift at the end. Judge Arlene: I think you have a sentimentality and a sincerity when you dance. That was what was going on upstairs but what was going on downstairs was a sorry state. Brucie tells them they're his favourites 4 5 7 6 = 22
Our view: I'm shaking my head. A lot. Blogger's wife: He has improved but it was still painful to watch. Brucie: That was a fun dance. Your hands looked smaller this week; you must have cut your nails. Judge Arlene: Oh dear. Samba comes from a bantu word meaning to pray and I think you need to. Head judge Len: There were a couple of nice, juicy moves in there but there were so small among all the bloody awful. Judge Bruno: You had the grace of a vacuum cleaner. Judge Craig: That was a complete dance disaster. It was grotesque in places. 3 4 6 5 = 18 Kelly Brook and Brendan Cole - American smooth Our view: Would have been a truly wonderful performance but it had three lifts in it and the first one was tiny and totally pointless. Blogger's wife: Wonderful but I think Kelly knew the rules and she's an idiot for letting him doing it. Brucie: That was beautiful. Judge Bruno: Gloss and glamour. Like watching Ava Gardner. Judge Craig: That could have been a 10 but now we have to mark it down. Judge Arlene: Rita Hayworth - you were never lovelier. Damn shame about those lifts. 8 8 8 10 = 34
Our view: I'm expecting more from Gethin now. He has the potential but he's not yet fulfilling it. Blogger's wife: Technically lacking in places but vastly improved performance. Brucie: I loved that finish. Judge Craig: Slight improvement on the hips.No bounce whatsoever but I enjoyed it. Judge Arlene: I wanted to see more hip action. Head judge Len: You lost the timing during the dance. Unlucky because it was your best dance other than that. 6 6 7 7 = 26
Our view: It'll be good enough to keep them in but we've seen much better this evening. Blogger's wife: She should stick to wearing those long dresses like this evening's one. But really Darren was doing all the glamour. Brucie: You're enjoying yourself. Judge Arlene: You've thrown off that market stall persona forever. Head judge Len: Your best dance to date. Well done. Judge Bruno: A touch of class with a sprinkle of camp always works. 7 8 8 8 = 31 Penny Lancaster Stewart and Ian Waite - samba Our view: Something different but not something I wanted to see. Blogger's wife: Didn't work for me. Didn't feel like a samba. Brucie: That was wonderful. Head judge Len: That dance was right up your alley. Judge Bruno: You can certainly use your assets. Judge Craig: Welcome back to the competition. And I liked the 60s stylisation. Judge Arlene: I differ from my other judges. That was less like a carnival in Rio and more like a party for two. 8 7 9 8 = 32 Our view: Very, very good. Well done. Brilliant control on those lifts. Best performance of the night was saved until last. Judge Craig: Absolutely fantastic. Judge Arlene: Matt - can I call you Matt-inee idol? A sensational smooth. Head judge Len: Marvellous. Judge Bruno: You are in the big league tonight. 9 9 9 9 = 36 A few thoughts: Shocking scoring from the judges this week: Kelly and Brendan's American Smooth was wonderful but it included three lifts whereas the rules state only two lifts are allowed. So how can judge Bruno possibly give it a 10? On top of that the scores given to Kate and John varied by up to three points. Craig and Arlene gave Kate a 3 whereas Len gave a 6, for example. Were they watching the same performance? Anton Du Beke losing his cool. He feels aggrieved at the pounding he and Kate have been taking from the judges and until now I have been sympathetic but I'm sorry, Anton, this week was truly a disaster. Lots of points for effort - I know Kate is trying hard - but it all went wrong in the middle of the routine and was never recovered. But will the voting public put Kate Garraway out of her misery (well, I say 'her' misery but she seems to be enjoying it) this week or will they give her enough votes to dance yet another day? What did you think of Bruno awarding a 10? Who should go this week? Kate? Kenny? Someone else? Have your say now by clicking the Add a Comment link below. Dominic Littlewood injuredStrictly Come Dancing contestant Dominic Littlewood has injured his shoulder in training. Friday's Strictly It Takes Two showed some footage of him putting a crash mat on the floor and rolling onto it. In doing so he hurt his shoulder. Dance partner Lilia was not best pleased, particularly as they are doing the American Smooth tonight which requires two lifts. Speaking on Radio Five Live this morning Dom said he had been advised to rest but would be dancing anyway. If when he lifts Lilia his shoulder is too painful he plans to put her back down and improvise. He added that he's counting on the public vote to get him through. 10月26日 Gethin Jones: "I've got hips and I'm going to use them."Strictly Come Dancing celeb Gethin Jones is proving to be a lot of fun on series five. And from his interview and training footage on last night's It Takes Two it looks like he's really getting into the samba. He said he found the first couples of days of training tough going but then he had a "breakthrough" and now he says: "I love the samba." Camilla has been helping him get the hip action right and Gethin is determined "to show the judges I've got hips and I can use them". And he seems completely unfazed by all the teasing about him being a bit of a hunk. 10月25日 Saturday and Sunday show times this week for Strictly Come DancingSaturday October 27 5:45pm to 7:15pm Sunday October 28 6:50pm to 7:35pm Penny Lancaster Stewart "much more comfortable" with the samba than the jiveA return to form for Strictly It Takes Two on Wednesday. Penny and Ian were on to relive their jive nightmare when the judges' comments and scores caused Penny to cry. I have to agree with judges Craig and Arlene: it wasn't a good performance and I don't think it was worth a seven that Len and Bruno gave it. However, I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to make Penny cry about it. Anyway, they got through it and survived for another week and that's the main thing when you're doing your worst dance. Ian was pleased the jive is done with, from what I recall of footage earlier in the week. This week they're doing the samba which Penny says she is "much more comfortable with". Best of luck to them. 10月24日 Strictly It Takes Two: Tuesday reviewNothing happened on last night's show. A complete non-event. Apart from singer Katherine Jenkins turning up and reminding me of someone. I couldn't think who it was - the hair, the clothes, the make-up and then I realised... Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds. 10月23日 Willie Thorne gets emotionalOn Monday night's Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two Willie Thorne and Erin Boag appeared to give their assessment of their time on series five and to receive the (deserved) sympathy of host Claudia Winkleman. Willie said he felt that they weren't the worst dancers of the night and that, referring to Craig calling him a walrus, he had come on the show to learn how to dance not take insults from the judges. In all his years as a snooker player and commentator he had never struck me as the emotional sort but as the montage of clips showing his performances, training and kind comments from his fellow contestants played out he began to shed a tear. Ultimately, he had a great time, Erin had taught him well, he didn't deserve to go out, the judges had been a bit harsh and well...it was all a bit too much. For me, this is the thing about Strictly that I don't feel you get in some other reality shows. You do get to see celebs as they really are rather than as their publicists would want you to see them. The strain of hours of training, the nerves of doing a live performance every week, the tension of the vote - nobody can fake their way through that. That doesn't mean I want to see celebs cry every week. I don't. I felt bad for Willie at that moment but he leaves with his integrity intact and in my view his reputation enhanced. 10月21日 Willie Thorne out of Strictly Come DancingSnooker legend Willie Thorne and dance partner Erin Boag were voted out of series five of Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night. In the dance-off they faced John Barnes whom the judges decided to save. But what do you think? Was that the right decision? Who should have been evicted? With a score of 27 John had got more points than Penny Lancaster Stewart, Kenny Logan, Dominic Littlewood and Kate Garraway and yet he still ended up in the dance-off. Have your say now by clicking the Add a Comment link below. 10月20日 Strictly Saturday scoresA good evening's dancing with all 12 remaining couples performing. Here's how the leaderboard looks: Alesha Dixon 36 But what do you think? Who deserves to stay in and who ought to have danced their last dance? Click the Add a Comment link below and give us your views. 10月19日 Tess Daly's top five Strictly Come Dancing momentsOn last night's Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two it was the turn of everyone's favourite newspaper The Tess Daly to appear. She did a good job and I particularly enjoyed her understanding of the dancers and the routines (even if her new hairdo is exactly the same as Gabby Logan's!). She was to asked to pick her top five Strictly moments which we replicate below. They are a mix of great dances and comedy routines: 5. Men's group merengue dance - series five 4. Peter Schmeichel and Erin Boag's samba - series four 3. Jill Halfpenny and Darren Bennett's jive - series three 2. Mark Ramprakash and Karen Hardy's Argentine tango - series four 1. Christopher Parker and Hanna Karttunen's paso doble - series one Dominic Littlewood aims for jive successFirst up on Thursday night's It Takes Two were Dominic Littlewood and dance partner Lilia Kopylova. As ever they were great fun although Dom had clearly decided to follow the lead set earlier in the week by Lilia's husband Darren as he was wearing a shirt that was exactly the same colour as the couch he was sitting on. Reviewing some of their footage, presenter Claudia Winkleman said: "You're smiling all the time." Dom replied: "It's not smiling, it's trapped wind." Dom's competitive streak shone through time and again and although the training footage didn't look like he has all the jive steps in perfect harmony with his partner, you can be guaranteed their routine will be a lot of fun because Lilia will be using her clever choreography to match Dom's personality. We should be seeing them around for at least a few more weeks. 10月18日 Exclusive: sneek peak at Strictly training footage"How about it?" as Bruce Forsyth would say.
Those nice people at the Beeb have given MSN a video montage of some fun Strictly Come Dancing week three training moments and I've grabbed a copy for this blog.
Some amusing jive and tango moments, I particularly liked Dom and Lilia. Enjoy:
Kate Garraway finds it difficult to look sexyKate and dance partner Anton du Beke were first up on last night's Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two. Anton still maintains his legendary sense of humour and mischief despite Saturday's dance debacle and it looks like he's got his work cut out again this week as Kate says she is struggling to act her part (Argentine lady of the night to Anton's gaucho) in the tango. Show host Claudia Winkleman asked Anton what could be done to help Kate get into the role and look sexy. "Drink," he replied. "It's the only thing for it." There's time still to get it right, of course, and they might also be saved by the fact that they're competing with the male celebs this week, some of whom may have judge Craig reaching for his '2' paddle again. We were then treated to a montage called 'Being Anton du Beke' which was quite good fun and involved black and white style footage with themes called out by text on the screen. Unfortunately one of these had a rather large spelling mistake. See if you can spot the error: 10月17日 Ola Jordan injuredTuesday's Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two revealed that professional dancer Ola Jordan has a leg injury for which she is receiving treatment. Her dance partner Kenny Logan was interviewed about it but didn't say anything of great note. If he wants the public to warm to him and start voting for him he'll have to try a bit harder on the PR front (without going for the sympathy vote). Dancing better would help too. Gethin Jones "struggling with the intimacy"Tuesday's Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two featured Gethin Jones and dance partner Camilla Dallerup. They're doing the tango this week. Gethin doesn't have to smile during this dance but admits he is "struggling with the intimacy" of being so close to Camilla during the routine. I can think of plenty of blokes who would gladly swap places with you, Gethin! Of course, Gethin isn't thinking of swapping his place. He's sounding more determined every time he is interviewed. He's been busy doing Blue Peter during the day and doing dance practice in the evening. It looked like a punishingly long day but he says he has been given a couple of weeks off his day job now so he can focus on Strictly. 10月16日 Stephanie Beacham on her shock departureAfter the controversy of Stephanie Beacham being voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five, Monday night's It Takes Two show was always going to be worth watching. Stephanie and her dance partner Vincent Simone were first on. She was frank about the whole experience and was pretty relieved to be off the show saying that she was having problems with her shoulders, neck and hips. I don't think she was looking forward to doing some of fast Latin dances. Credit to her, she didn't once complain that she should have stayed on instead of Kate Garraway or Letitia Dean, both of whom received lower scores from the judges. We were shown a montage of Stephanie's best moments during her time on the show. For me the classic was her comment to Kelly Brook: "If you were my daughter I'd say: 'One flash a day and make it a good one'." Overall she has been great fun with her dry wit and her classy, elegant approach which contrasted well with, how shall I call it, Vincent's more down to earth style. Asked who she would support, she listed all the female celebs including "head girl Logan" and "Aphrodite Penny", adding: "When Penny hugs you in the morning you're sorted for the day." Also on Monday's show Presenter Claudia Winkleman tried to put them on the spot over their scoring but failed to ask them what everyone really wanted to know: How could Craig justify voting for Letitia rather than Stephanie after the dance-off? Winkleman also asked Craig about the terribly low score that he gave to Kate Garraway. He replied, bluntly: "Two: one for each foot." Brilliant. Last on the show were Letitia and her dance partner Darren Bennett. Well, I think Darren was there but he was wearing a jumper whose shade of purple perfectly matched the colour of the couch he was sitting on so he was well camouflaged. They're doing the tango next week. They'll need to raise their game as their rumba was not good although now they're competing against the male celebs (some of whom looked hopeless in the group dance) they could stay in for a while with little effort. All twelve remaining celebs will be dancing either a tango or a jive this Saturday - that's a lot to get through in one show but it will be fun. Join me each day here on the blog as the build-up towards Saturday grows and do share your views by clicking the Add a Comment link below. PS Don't worry, the Saturday show (5:45pm to 7:15pm) ends well before the rugby starts... 10月14日 Strictly Sunday results: Stephanie Beacham is outActress Stephanie Beacham was voted out of Strictly Come Dancing series five 2007 on Sunday night. She was involved in a dance-off with former EastEnders star Letitia Dean. Neither had been bottom after the judges' scores on Saturday - Kate Garraway was far and away the lowest with 15 and yet she was saved from the dance-off by the viewers' vote. When the viewers' vote was combined with the judges' scores Stephanie and Letitia were in the bottom two. Each judge had to nominate who they thought had given the better performance in the dance-off. Here's how they voted: Judge Craig - Letitia Judge Arlene - Stephanie Judge Bruno - Letitia Head judge Len (who has the casting vote) - Letitia Was that the right decision? Did Letitia do better than Stephanie? How on earth can Kate Garraway have received more votes than either of them? Have your say now by clicking the Add a Comment link below. 10月13日 Strictly Saturday scores and reviewA good Saturday night's viewing as the female celebs took to the floor to face the judges on week two of Strictly Come Dancing series five 2007. As usual we offer a full results service including our view, blogger’s wife’s view and highlights of the judges’ views in the order they were given. Scores are also shown as they were given in the show – Craig, Arlene, Len, Bruno. And our Brucie Bonus – our review includes the excellent Mr Forsyth’s enthusiastic comments made as each dance ends. In response to David's request in the Comments section below, I shall from now on note which couple is Brucie's favourites. Stephanie Beacham and Vincent Simone - quickstep Our view: OK but a serious lack of contact in the hold. No wow factor for me. Blogger's wife: Didn't feel quick enough or light enough. Brucie: What a start. Well done indeed, well done. It was absolutely marvellous. Head judge Len Goodman: In the quickstep you want to fly round the floor, light and fluffy with little intimate steps on the spot and Stephanie by and large that's what we saw. Your posture needs a little bit of work, your hold is sometimes a little bit off but first one out, the nerves are jingling and jangling, I thought you did a great job. Judge Bruno Tonioli: You sell it and you act it. Technically there are a few little things that need to be ironed. Judge Craig Revel Horwood: You arrived with absolutely all the class in the world. A very respectable attempt. You lost body contact a lot throughout it. Judge Arlene Phillips: Once an actress always an actress, your smile heated that floor. Brucie tells the couple they're his favourites. Letitia Dean and Darren Bennett - rumba Blogger's wife: The ending was painful to watch. No sparks between them. Brucie: How about that? Come on. How about it? That was lovely. Head judge Len: By and large you did a good job out there. I know you were nervous. You must try to push through the balls of your feet to create more of a hip action. Judge Bruno: For me this was a rumba with the handbrake on. You did everything but it was restrained. Judge Craig: All too clean and clinical, really cold. I thought you could have thrown yourself more into the dance. Judge Arlene: I didn't find the interplay between you. I think you two need to go for a night out together. 4 6 7 6 = 23 Kate Garraway and Anton Du Beke - quickstep Blogger's wife: Good on her for having a go but it was pretty awful. I hated the music. Brucie: Well you got through it, you got through it. Well, he got through it and you were following him here and there. Judge Craig: There is a positive side to all this: the fact that you're up and dancing, that's wonderful. The downside, however, was that it was as heavy as lead. Very unsteady on the turns. Judge Arlene: What is it with GMTV presenters? You don't have rhythm. Is it all that sitting on the couch? Anton left you. You were like the people who sit at home and never win the Premium Bonds. Head judge Len: It was such a shame you had to dance the quickstep; it's the most demanding of dances on your feet. Brave attempt, well done. Judge Bruno: There was a smile all the way through. It was the smile of desperation. The feet went on strike. They didn't connect. 2 4 5 4 = 15 Alesha Dixon and Matthew Cutler - rumba Blogger's wife: Lovely dress. Finally a rumba that didn't make me cringe. Brucie: How about that? Come on! Judge Bruno: You have the seducing power of Salome. You went for it and you really interpreted the rumba as it should have been. Judge Craig: Absolutely gorgeous. Sexy, very sexy, without being lascivious. Fantastic spotting and great control. Judge Arlene: Gorgeous gazelle. I love the partnership. Just watch the linking steps. Head judge Len: Tonight we see who are the pretenders and who are the contenders. You are a contender. 8 7 8 8 = 31 Penny Lancaster Stewart and Ian Waite - quickstep Blogger's wife: Fantastic hold, great routine. Very well matched. Brucie: How about that? You look so good together. Judge Arlene: Green goddess. You swing, you sway, you perform. Ginger Rogers. I loved it. Head judge Len: You don't get a second chance at a first impression. First impression: fantastic. Judge Bruno: Elegant, lovely sway, fantastic. Judge Craig: Timing was excellent. Keep your shoulders down. 8 8 8 9 = 33 Kelly Brook and Brendan Cole - rumba Blogger's wife: Loved the choice of music. Very sensuous. Really liked it. Brucie: Well done Kelly. Judge Bruno: This was luscious. Your arms: don't whack them about, make sure you extend them [Brucie interjects: "She was trying to hit Brendan!"]. Judge Craig: You do have the sex factor and it's amazing. You dance very well, beautiful back and great recovery, by the way. Judge Arlene: Kelly, people love you because of your beautiful smile and body but I love you because of your feet. Head judge Len: Brendan, you must think you've died and gone to heaven. That was a hot rumba. It was surprising the smoke detectors didn't go off. You are a very good dancer, you just need to work on those refinements. Gabby Logan and James Jordan - quickstep Blogger's wife: Was good but should have been better. Gabby needs to learn how to perform. Brucie: Wonderful. Head judge Len: You coped very well with a very difficult dance. Judge Bruno: It was fast-paced but a little bit skippy. Judge Craig: I thought it was absolutely fantastic. You were very comfortable out of hold. Judge Arlene: Quickstep is like dancing over hot coals and it was a little bit like coals to Newcastle via Leeds. It wasn't as light as it could have been but overall it was good. 8 7 7 7 = 29 Now it's not often that judge Craig gives a higher score than all the other three. So that leaves Kate Garraway bottom with 15 and Letitia Dean second last with 23. Will they face the dance off on Sunday night? Or will the public give one of them enough votes to shift Stephanie Beacham into the bottom two? Or will we see some kind of extraordinary public voting outcome? What did you think of the performances and the judges' comments and scores? Who should be voted out? Click the Add a Comment link below to give us your views. |
