9月27日 Strictly Come Dancing series five Sunday results showStrictly Come Dancing series five will feature a change in format with a results show on Sunday. Here's the BBC press release: Strictly Come Dancing – the results show moves to Sunday eveningsThe Strictly Come Dancing results show will transmit on Sundays with a brand new 45-minute programme on BBC One.With a strong appetite for good entertaining family viewing on Sunday evenings, Strictly Come Dancing provides the perfect end to the weekend and a chance for all the family to find out who survives to train for another week and who is hanging up their dance shoes for good. The new extended show – which will be an extra 15 minutes long – will be packed with more Strictly goodies include more behind–the–scenes footage, music performances and, most importantly, more dancing. In a change to the format, the judges will make the final decision on who will leave the competition on Sundays. When the programme closes on Saturday night viewers will continue to vote for their favourite couple for one hour following the end of the programme. The phone lines will then close and the votes will be counted and verified. When the show returns on Sunday evening the results will be announced with the viewers' vote and the judges' scores combining to save the couples. The bottom two couples will then face a dance–off leaving the judges to decide – based solely on that performance alone – who should stay and who should go.If the judges' vote is split 50/50 then head judge Len Goodman will have the deciding vote on who should be saved. In the final week the viewers will decide who will be crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion 2007.The new series of Strictly Come Dancing starts on BBC One on Saturday 6 October 2007 with the first results show on BBC One on Sunday 7 October.I don't see this as a step forward. Sure, the show needs to evolve to keep things fresh and interesting but why mess with the format in this way? The Saturday results show was a good one; it almost feels like the Beeb is trying to milk the franchise for all it can. What do you think? Post your comments below. 9月25日 Strictly Come Dancing poll: Alesha Dixon overtakes Kelly BrookWith 598 votes cast so far here is how you've voted for your early favourite for Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five in my less than scientific poll:
Kelly Brook (131) 22%
Alesha Dixon (133) 22% Gabby Logan (86) 14% Kenny Logan (13) 2% Letitia Dean (81) 14% Penny Lancaster-Stewart (87) 15% Matt Di'Angelo (67) 11% Latest odds from the William Hill website for Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five are:
Letitia Dean 5/1
Kelly Brook 5/1 Alesha Dixon 5/1 Matt D' Angelo 6/1 Gethin Jones 7/1 John Barnes 8/1 Kenny Logan 9/1 Gabby Logan 9/1 Penny Lancaster 10/1 Kate Garraway 12/1 Brian Capron 12/1 Dom Littlewood 14/1 Willie Thorne 20/1 Stephanie Beacham 20/1 9月21日 Strictly Come Dancing: a nice little earnerYesterday the Sun reported that each celeb contestant on Strictly Come Dancing series five will earn £25,000 for taking part.
The idea is to prevent any squabbles about who is earning the biggest fee.
The professional dancers will also receive the same fee as each other.
Too much, too little? Let me know your views by adding a comment below.
Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five preview showFans of Strictly Come Dancing will be excited to learn that there will be a full preview show this year. Here's what the Beeb's press release has to say (which I reproduce in full, you'll spot the the missing 'f'): Kicking of the new series on Saturday 29 September at 6pm, BBC One will be screening a 50-minute documentary introducing all of the fantastic new contestants, as well as revisiting some of the old favourites, to discover exactly what it's like to be a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. After months of speculation, the programme documents the first time the celebs meet their professional dancing partners. How will ladies' man Brendan react to the news he'll be dancing with the beautiful Kelly Brook? Is Karen hoping she'll be dancing her way to the final again with ex-Coronation Street star Brian Capron? Taking a look back at past series, the programme also includes interviews with previous contestants including Darren Gough, Fiona Phillips and last year's winner Mark Ramprakash. They explain in their own words what it was like to be involved in such an exciting show, the nerves and excitement they felt on a daily basis, and how most had no idea what they were letting themselves in for... Following each contestant, viewers join them on their first training session as they don their heels and sparkles for the first time and reveal their hopes and fears for the months ahead... and the nerves that are building as that first performance looms in just seven days time. Strictly Come Dancing, Saturday 29 September 2007, 6pm, BBC One. Sounds good, although I can't say I'm looking forward to the Fiona Phillips bit. She just didn't gel with dance partner Brendan and never gave me the impression she truly enjoyed participating. But it will be interesting to hear from Mark Ramprakash how (if at all) things have changed for him since he won Strictly. 9月18日 Strictly Come Dancing 2007: the twilight zoneWelcome to the phoney war phase of Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five - or the twilight zone.
Whatever you want to call it, it's the period between the day when the contestants are announced and the day of the first live show.
As well as practising a bit, the couples are appearing on chat shows and daytimeTV and doing interviews and such like.
This is all good for the build-up to the show and for the celebs who need to keep in the news for the sake of their career but let's be clear here: none of this early jousting has any effect on the outcome of the show. In the first two weeks the worst dancers usually get the boot (Nicholas Owen, Mica Paris, Quentin Wilson etc). If you're a contestant who ends up on a journey - ooh, that's the first use of the J-word in 2007 - and therefore ends up getting a bit more public support than your talent might deserve, the public will pick up on your saga only after a few weeks.
Still, it's all good fun so let the jousting, phoney war and the twilight zone of series five continue.
At least until early October. 9月14日 Biggest Strictly Come Dancing injustice? Before the press conference started yesterday they showed some of the dances from series four of Strictly.
An enjoyable stroll down memory lane but seeing Spoony and Ray Fearon it made me wonder who suffered the biggest injustice in Strictly voting?
Was it:
Spoony (out in week three)
or
Ray Fearon (out before Claire King and Peter Schmeichel)
or
Aled Jones (not reaching the final of series three instead of Julian Clary)? Same Strictly professionals as last yearOne thing I noticed about the line-up this year is that we have the same 14 professionals for Strictly Come Dancing 2007 as we did for last year.
Is this a good thing?
This is the first time the line-up has remained the same and although, of course, previous series did have differing numbers of contestants we did at least always meet a few new faces.
There is a risk of the formula becoming a bit stale and the Strictly professional part becoming a closed shop if this were to continue in the future.
On the other hand, which professional would you drop if you wanted to bring in some new faces? They're all so good, aren't they? If nice guys deserve to win surely it's Ian Waite's turn?At the Strictly Come Dancing press conference yesterday Ian was the last dancer to be introduced. He was on his own because his partner Penny Lancaster-Stewart was in LA for some family birthdays.
Ian did some extra-long theatrical bows much to the amusement of the audience. He always comes across as such a nice chap and I think the choreography he has put into some of the routines in previous series has been terrific. In particular, his tango with Zoe Ball still stands out as one of the best Strictly performances ever.
He's been to the final twice - with Zoe and Denise Lewis - but in series four he drew one of the short straws when he got Mica Paris as his dance partner. She was voted out in week two.
It would be nice to see Ian finally win it but the bookies don't seem to rate the chances of his partner Penny Lancaster-Stewart. Willie Thorne's nickname is Mr MaximumI've been watching snooker on the TV for 20 years or more and never once can I recall anyone ever referring to Willie Thorne as 'Mr Maximum' - never during his pro career nor during his time as a commentator.
He acquired the name, according to the Strictly Come Dancing press blurb, because he has compiled more 147 maximum breaks than any other player. I'm sure this is true but it's just rather odd to never have heard it before.
I expect the nickname will come out a few times this series just before the judges give Willie their scores... More glamour, fewer duffers in Strictly 2007My take on the line-up for Strictly Come Dancing series five is:
1. They've upped the stakes with a bit more glamour - Kelly Brook etc.
2. They've found a clever angle with the Kenny vs Gabby husband and wife thing which they have cunningly extended by pairing them with husband and wife dance professionals James and Ola Jordan. You can imagine how much Claudia Winkleman is already looking forward to covering that in It Takes Two.
3. They've reduced the duffer quota. For exmple, from series two you'll recall Quentin Wilson and Esther Rantzen and from series four Nicholas Owen and Jimmy Tarbuck. This should make for a better standard earlier in the show and it should also make it far harder to predict who's going to be knocked out. Best quote from the Strictly 2007 launchWillie Thorne: "They say they want to see our hips move but I haven't seen my hips in 10 years." Early favourites for Strictly Come Dancing 2007I posted a poll yesterday to see who you all thought would win.
There aren't enough options in the poll tool for me to include all 14 which is a pain so I whittled the list down to seven.
We've already had more than 400 votes and as I write here are how things stand:
Kelly Brook 24%
Alesha Dixon 23%
Gabby Logan 17%
Kenny Logan 2%
Letitia Dean 11%
Penny Lancaster-Stewart 14%
Matt Di'Angelo 10%
Based on a press release from William Hill, which cut Alesha's odds today, here are the latest odds:
5/1 John Barnes, 6/1 Matt D’Angelo, 7/1 Kelly Brook, 7/1 Alesha Dixon, 7/1 Gethin Jones, 8/1 Gabby Logan, 8/1 Letitia Dean, 9/1 Kenny Logan, 12/1 Kate Garraway, 12/1 Brian Capron, 12/1 Dom Littlewood, 12/1 Willie Thorne, 14/1 Penny Lancaster, 20/1 Stephanie Beacham.
I'm surprised to see John Barnes doing quite so well - he looked a bit too, how shall I put it, well-built when I saw him yesterday so I didn't include him in my reduced poll. Mind you he was the first one to admit that he needed to lose weight and what could be better than a Strictly diet? The first two weeks of Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series fiveFrom the BBC press release here's how the first two weeks of the show will go:
"In the first show the boys will dance to stay in the competition performing either a waltz or a cha-cha-cha whilst the girls remain safe and perform a group number. "Then it's the girls' turn in week two to dance to be in with a chance to stay as they perform either a quickstep or a rumba. The boys will perform a group number and will all return for week three when it's every couple for themselves. "From the off, the couples will face the judges and the public vote. In week one a male will go, in week two a female will go and in the third week the lowest scoring pair starts leaving the competition." I've said before that I think the group numbers are not my favourite bit of the show. They're basically fillers and they're really just a consequence of having so many celebs in the show that they can't fit in 14 separate dances in one evening. They're usually performed quite poorly because it's so early on in the series and the celebs are still finding their feet. If you want to see a decent group number just let the professional dancers do it. Will it be Bruce Forsyth's last series of Strictly Come Dancing?Rumours were circulating a while back that the BBC was hoping to replace Bruce Forsyth as host of Strictly Come Dancing with, horror of horrors, Vernon Kaye.
Vernon, as you know, is married to Strictly's other presenter: everyone's favourite newspaper The Tess Daly. So maybe the two of them presenting together would be the Beeb's dream ticket.
But this would obviously be disastrous. Brucie is untouchable. He is Mr Saturday night. And Vernon Kaye, well, let's just say I'm not his biggest fan.
So here's what was said at the press conference:
BBC One controller Peter Fincham opened the conference with a speech about how wonderful Strictly Come Dancing is but he weaved the following into the speech: "Bruce is the godfather of Strictly Come Dancing. It's hard to imagine Strictly without Bruce."
From that I take it that this won't be Brucie's last series. Maybe he'll bow out next year when he's 80. Or maybe he'll keep on going. The longer he can keep Vernon Kaye out the better. What's happened to Tess Daly's hair?At the press conference yesterday to launch Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five everyone's favourite newspaper The Tess Daly made an appearance and introduced "the stars of our show". But all I could think was: "What on earth has happened to her hair?"
Gone are the flowing locks of last year. They have been replaced by the straightest, fringiest hairdo the planet has ever known.
It's the type of thing teenage girls do when they are trying to look older.
It does not look good on Tess. Strictly Come Dancing's Letitia Dean annoyed me so I made a short videoAt yesterday's press conference - when the line-up for Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five was announced - I got rather annoyed by former EastEnders actress Letitia Dean.
I wasn't sure what to do about it.
In the end I made a short video.
The point is that she kept going on about how she's 40 and how difficult everything seems to be a result. And then we heard how she has "six blisters" and then later how she has "a blister".
She's still 39 as far as I know.
And she's younger than four of the other contestants none of whom made any reference to their age.
9月13日 The contestants for Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series fiveJust back from the press conference where the contestants for Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five were announced. The line-up is as follows: The women: Stephanie Beacham - actress who played Sable Colby in Dynasty and The Colbys and more recently starred in ITV prison drama Bad Girls. Her dance partner for Strictly is Vincent Simone. The men: John Barnes - former Watford, Liverpool and England footballer. His Strictly dance partner will be Nicole Cutler. The judges Usual line-up on the judges panel: Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood. The presenters The one and only Mr Bruce Forsyth returns alongside everybody's favourite newspaper The Tess Daly. The new series of Strictly Come Dancing starts in October. Can't wait! They did not actually announce the start date, just the month. With the same number of contestants as series four (which started on Saturday October 7), series five is, in my view, most likely to start on Saturday October 6. Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five contestants to be announced todayWe're nearly there. The contestants for series five of Strictly Come Dancing will be announced this morning.
The press conference is at 11am.
And I shall be there.
To say that I can't wait could be considered something of an understatement. 9月10日 Latest rumours on contestants for Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series fiveIn the Sun, the line-up of contestants for series five of Strictly Come Dancing is: Alesha Dixon, Kate Garraway, Penny Lancaster, Letitia Dean, Stephanie Beacham, Gabby Logan, Kelly Brook, John Barnes, Gethin Jones, Kenny Logan and Dominic Littlewood.
Whereas in the People Matt di Angelo and Willie Thorne will be among those taking part.
So the Sun lists 11 celebs and the People lists a further two. They could both be right.
In total there will be 14 celebs. 9月9日 Strictly Come Dancing 2007 series five contestants to be announced this ThursdayYes, Thursday September 13 is the big day.
We'll see how many of these newspaper rumours prove true. |
