9月30日 Tess Daly hair update: series six week twoWhat a weekend it was on Strictly Come Dancing 2008 for the hairstyle of everyone's favourite newspaper The Tess Daly.
Here is the Saturday September 27 look which, for me, has Farrah Fawcett written all over it:
And here is the Sunday September 28 hair which included the 'swept back on the right' look (for a moment I wondered if it had become a Phil Oakey-esque lob-sided flange* but, in fact, it hadn't):
* a joke only readers of the Vic Reeves Big Night In book will fully appreciate. Sorry.
Anyway, here ends the vitally important week two Tess Daly hair update.
The Sunday purple dress met with blogger's wife's approval, by the way.
It Takes Two review Monday Sept 29Just WHAT was that dress Winkleman was wearing last night?
OK, rant over. Here's what happened in the show:
Gillian and Anton
First up were Gillian and Anton. He had taken the eviction quite hard, not answering his phone all weekend but was managing a smile on Monday. Many of you in the blog comments here felt it is a shame Anton hasn't had a better celeb partner. I have to agree as he's a lot of fun and has been dealt a pretty bad hand on this show over the years but I also think Anton's Latin dances just aren't of a high enough standard to win Strictly anyway. Gillian was her chirpy self.
Judges Craig and Arlene
What does it take to be a judge on Strictly Come Dancing? Each of the four judges answered this question on a video clip. Unsurprisingly each one reckoned the charactertistics needed were the ones they themselves possess - Craig: honesty etc etc. Judges Craig and Arlene turned up to review (briefly) Saturday night. Their main point was how much Jodie Kidd improved. Her dance-off performance was so much better than her first effort and the areas she had improved on were the things the judges had picked on originally.
Jessie and Darren
Bottom of the pack on Saturday, Jessie Wallace and Darren Bennett turned up on the couch, smiling and laughing, to be shown of video montage of them smiling and laughing. Darren gave a very honest assessment of their performance listing a range of things they need to improve. Basically, everything.
Lisa on the phone
For some reason Lisa Snowdon was interviewed. By phone. The long and the short of it is Brendan was disappointed with the judges' scores (as I suggested in my weekend review) and she thought he was unhappy with her. He wasn't. And they got over it. So there we are.
As I've said on this blog already, we'll see if Brendan is a changed man when the pressure is on and the judges get tough. Getting annoyed by the scoring and the comments is not a vote winner on Strictly. You have got to stand there and take it and then do what Darren just did: accept it calmly and use it to improve.
Brendan is such a passionate guy and he is so excited to have Lisa as his partner that I think he has overhyped their chances by saying how well she is doing and what a great partnership they have. This may all be true but they still have to live up to that by delivering a great routine and performance on Saturday night and in my view (and the judges' view) they didn't.
And finally Overall, It Takes Two continues to avoid taking itself too seriously. Its intro yesterday was perfect.
Now if they could just sort out Winkleman's wardrobe...
9月28日 Strictly series six week two: Gillian Taylforth is outActress Gillian Taylforth and her dance partner Anton Du Beke were voted out of Strictly Come Dancing series six on the week two results show. After the viewers' votes were counted and added to the judges' scores from Saturday, Gillian and Anton were one of the couples in the bottom two. They had scored 22 with the judges on Saturday's show. The dance-off And so the two couples did their best during the dance-off and the judges then had to vote for the couple they wanted to save. Here is how the voting went: Judge Craig: Jodie and Ian What do you think? Actress Jessie Wallace had managed just 20 points from the judges and yet thanks to viewers’ votes she escaped the dance-off. Have your say now by clicking the Add a Comment link below. Strictly series six week two: judges' comments and scoresA good second week on Strictly Come Dancing 2008. The women performed their first dance and the men did a group routine. Cherie Lunghi topped the leader board with an impressive 33. Jessie Wallace ended up bottom with 20. Here is our review of Saturday night including, as usual, a summary of the judges’ comments, our view, blogger’s wife’s view and Brucie’s enthusiastic comments as each performance ends. We also note which couple Brucie picked out as his favourites (user David has requested this latter service, we are happy to oblige). Judges’ scores are noted in the order they are given in the show: Craig, Arlene, Len, Bruno. And a new Brucie bonus for you: MSN is doing a weekly photo gallery of the performances. Here is the link to the Strictly week two photos on MSN. Jessie Wallace and Darren Bennett – salsa Our view: Laudable effort. A bit all over the place with the footwork. Blogger’s wife: I didn’t enjoy that and the outfit wasn’t flattering.
Head judge Len Goodman: Lots of hips and rhythm. I feel that you’re thinking about the routine and that’s when you forget to perform. Judge Bruno Tonioli: Full of content but salsa is about walking on the wild side and next time you do a Latin dance let yourself go. Judge Craig Revel Horwood: The energy was very, very good. However, it was a bit heavy and a bit behind the beat. Judge Arlene Phillips: The dress and smile were working overtime but the hips, feet and rhythm weren’t. Let’s see the finesse. 4 4 6 6 = 20 Christine Bleakley and Matthew Cutler – foxtrot Our view: Very good. She’s done well. Blogger’s wife: Very elegant. Very good first dance. Head judge Len: The foxtrot is all grace and elegance. And that’s what we got. Judge Bruno: It had a lovely light and ethereal quality. You were like Titania [this is one of those literary references that Bruno likes to throw in sometimes for reasons only he knows. Titania is the queen of the fairies in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Unless, of course, Bruno was referring to the Titania that is the largest moon of Uranus and, well, you can finish that sentence off…]. Judge Craig: Great control just finish that line off a bit better. Judge Arlene: When you started to dance you took my breath away. I was stunned. You have beautiful arms, you just forgot they have hands on the end of them. 6 6 8 7 = 27
Lisa Snowdon and Brendan Cole – salsa Our view: I didn’t enjoy that. Brendan’s choreography is either brilliant or disastrous. It’s the latter here, I’m afraid. He had some Latin moves to do which he executed superbly whereas she had a lot of spinning around to do which she also did very well. But that does not make a salsa. Or, frankly, anything. I just don’t know what that was. Blogger’s wife: I loved her outfit. I enjoyed Brendan’s dancing and she has got a lot of potential. Judge Craig: You have the most natural rhythm but that didn’t save you because it was a little on the cool side. Judge Arlene: The rhythm didn’t really get you. You were an English rose but you need to get down and dirty. Head judge Len: The spins were fantastic. Judge Bruno: It didn't have the juice. We want to party with you. 5 5 6 6 = 22 Brendan looked a bit disappointed with those scores but kept quiet.
Jodie Kidd and Ian Waite – foxtrot Our view: I was expecting more. It was OK for a first dance but she needs use her height to excel in the ballroom with lovely long lines and graceful kicks and we didn’t really see that. Blogger’s wife: I didn’t find it particularly graceful. It looked like she was kicking a football. Judge Arlene: You sure are elegant. The footwork was a bit ropey. Head judge Len: Tall girls can dance. It was light and elegant. Lovely effort.
Judge Bruno: Stick to role and play it all the way round. Judge Craig: I loved the punctuation in the routine and that saved you. There’s a lot of body to control and you controlled it quite well. 5 6 7 7= 25 Heather Small and Brian Fortuna - salsa Our view: Finally, a salsa that was a salsa. Well done. Blogger's wife: The right attitude and it felt like a salsa. Some dodgy steps. Judge Bruno: Sassy Mama. That is what salsa is all about. You missed a few accents. Judge Craig: Right energy and attitude. You feet were a foot apart. A bit ragdollish at the end. Very trusting to do the neckdrop. Brilliant. Judge Arlene: You had that hip action but you were in and out of the attitude. I want you to go out there and sizzle because you can. Head judge Len: Clever Heather, Queen of the salsa. I loved it. 5 6 8 7 = 26 Gillian Taylforth and Anton du Beke Our view: Good enough to escape my predicted mauling from the judges so well done to her but I do think it was a case of Anton making her look good rather than her doing particularly well. And what on earth was that dress all about? Yellow with pictures of salad on it. Blogger's wife is not going to like that.
Blogger's wife: I liked the song but the dress was awful [see, I told you so]. But the performance was not as bad as I expected so I am pleasantly surprised. Judge Craig: A little rough around the edges. Not a complete disaster. Judge Arlene: Lots of the fox but less of the trot. It's a romantic dance. Head judge Len: Your footwork was beautiful. You have to work on your upper body. Judge Bruno: Compared with his previous partners you're Ginger Rogers but your frame and posture went due to nerves. 4 5 7 6 = 22 Rachel Stevens and Vincent Simone - salsa Our view: Intricate and well carried out. Quite a gamble to make it so complicated but they've done well. Was it really a salsa, though? Blogger's wife: Wonderful choreography and execution but didn't have the right attitude and not dirty enough. Judge Arlene: I was absolutely enthralled by the opening. Rachel, just deliver, don't hold back. Head judge Len: I can only agree with Arlene. Fantastic. Judge Bruno: Oh, R-R-R-R-Rachel. It was like a cocktail that gets you high. Judge Craig: More rotation needed but amazing. 7 8 8 8 = 31 Cherie Lunghi and James Jordan - foxtrot Our view: Oh elegance. Terrific. The only performance where I hardly noticed the professional dancer. Blogger's wife: Fantastic. Lovely arms and hands. Judge Bruno: That's a leading lady. Judge Craig: One class act. Fabulous. Judge Arlene: What a performance. Head judge Len: The best dance of the night. 8 8 9 8 = 33 Brucie: You're my favourites. Group performance That turned out to be fair comment. Mark and Andrew still need to let themselves go, too. Get ready for the dance-off tonight What did you think of the performances? Have your say by clicking the Add a Comment link below.
We’ll be back with the result of the dance-off on Sunday night – around 9pm.
9月27日 Strictly series six week two leader boardIn week two of Strictly Come Dancing 2008 the female celebs danced competitively for the first time. It was a fun show with some good routines. Here are the scores:
So who do you think did well? And who should be voted out? Have your say now by clicking the Add a Comment link below. The results show on BBC One starts at 8pm on Sunday night. We'll be back with the result of the dance-off tomorrow evening.
9月26日 Strictly series six week two: weekend previewCan’t wait for Saturday night’s show - it’s the first time the female celebs compete. One of them will be voted off on the Sunday results show. And I’m predicting a Strictly shock eviction.
Who’s dancing what? Foxtrot – Christine Bleakley, Cherie Lunghi, Gillian Taylforth, Jodie Kidd Salsa – Rachel Stevens, Heather Small, Lisa Snowdon, Jessie Wallace
The men are doing a group merengue. Show times The results show is on at Sunday September 28 8pm – 9pm BBC One. The two couples with the lowest combined judges' score and viewer votes must perform again in the dance-off, and only one will be saved by the judges. The Odds Odds for the round two eviction:
The prediction But I am predicting she will stay in and a far better dancer will be eliminated. Here’s why: Based on this week’s training footage and my assessment of last weekend’s group dance it’s clear Gillian is the weakest dancer. She will therefore get a slaughtering from judge Craig and a suitably low mark. The voting public will phone in sympathy for Gillian (and never underestimate the power of the EastEnders fans’ vote: they love their stars even after they have quit the soap) and she will get enough votes to save her from being in the bottom two. The dance-off will therefore feature two better dancers, one of whom will have to leave. Remember GMTV’s Kate Garraway in series five? It’s going to happen again. Our coverage
Female celebs: who’s trained the most (and least)?Thursday’s It Takes Two revealed the hours trained so far by each of the female celebs. Here’s how they stack up:
They’re all behind the top chaps – Mark Foster and Andrew Castle are both already over 90 hours. You could argue that all this training hardly paid off for Andrew and Mark in week one in that their performances hardly set the world alight but it got them through the first round and at this stage that’s all that really matters.
9月25日 It Takes Two Wednesday Sept 20 reviewI am enjoying It Takes Two a lot this year. Can it maintain its momentum for 14 weeks? We'll see but for now it's a great ride.
Jessie, Jodie, Rachel
Keeping the format of having loads of people on the couch at the same time, the show kicked off with Jessie, Jodie and Rachel discussing their experience of the group performance and the dances they are doing this Saturday. Jodie had not done the training for the group performance which perhaps explains why she did not do well but she has trained hard for the foxtrot and sounded very confident. Jessie and Rachel are doing the salsa.
Judge Craig
The midweek review of the training footage was very interesting. Judge Craig was impressed with much of what he saw and so was I. The women look set to produce some strong performances this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it.
Ian, Darren, Vincent
Three of the male pro dancers then appeared. They had presented Jodie and Jessie with a birthday cake because it's their birthdays today. They didn't have much else to say of great note but Vincent was good fun as usual.
Small gripe: the Beeb seems to be crowbarring in an unnecessary amount of male posturing from the pro dancers this year. All that stuff on the millennium bridge with the posing and the "I'm going to give the others a run for their money" soundbites just don't come across as natural. Yes, the chaps are competitive, yes they want to win but Strictly is a feel-good show and the pro dancers should be allowed to be themselves. We all know Ian, Matthew and Darren in particular just aren't the boastful sort.
OK, small gripe over. This weekend is going to be a cracker.
PS
Jodie Kidd was on the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? last night. You can see it via the iplayer. Otherwise I expect it will also be repeated next Thursday evening on BBC2.
9月24日 It Takes Two Tuesday review (including Ola's outfit)Eight, yes, eight guests on Winkleman's couch on Tuesday.
Don and Lilia
First up were Don - the thinking lady's Strictly crumpet - and Lilia. They expressed their surprise at surviving the dance-off once the first two judges had voted for Phil and Flavia.
Mark, Andrew, Tom and John
Four of the chaps appeared at the same time. They each briefly relived their first night's dacning experience. John was his usual clam, understated self.
Comedians
Will Smith (British comedian not the Men In Black star) and Rob Deering were also guests. I'm not sure why they were guests but I'm pleased they turned up. Very funny. If there's one thing I'd like It Takes Two to do it's to bring back its best guests more regularly rather than cycling through every celeb who happens to be in town to promote their new film, book, song etc.
Will and Rob MUST return. Hilarious.
And the best of the rest
Blogger's wife says footage of the men's group performance suggests Austin Healey is going to be good at Latin dances. That's going to make him rather difficult to beat, to put it mildly.
Generally, throughout the show there were lots of comments about Ola Jordan's outfit. Can't say I really noticed it. This is the only pic on the BBC's media site (image - Guy Levy/BBC):
So, in the name of research, I thought I should review the video footage on the Beeb's Strictly site and try to get some screen grabs:
Tess Daly hair: week one updateHere's how the hairstyle of The Tess Daly (everyone's favourite newspaper) changed between the Saturday show and the Sunday results show (the latter is filmed on the same evening but broadcast the following day).
Saturday September 20: Sunday September 21 (you'll note the 'swept back behind the right ear' look - I must try that one myself...):
9月23日 Claudia Winkleman hair: crucial updateCrikey. It’s all kicking off in the hair department this year. On the first Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two last night Winkleman introduced the show by saying she’d been to the hairdresser. And indeed she has as the photo below demonstrates:
I was also wondering if she had been to a dress shop. And did anyone catch sight of her heels? She normally wears the highest heels in the business but I forgot to take note last night. Anyway, It Takes Two was fun. The show still refuses to take itself too seriously which is a good thing. Phil and Flavia Lisa and Brendan Brendan’s been going out with Zoe Hobbs this year and this seems to have calmed him down a bit but we should wait to see how he handles any judges’ criticism before we can confirm he’s truly a changed man.
Craig and Arlene The judges also gave their views on the dance-off system which is supposed to allow them to save a good dancer but is not quite working due to the way the public vote turns out. Len said he still had doubts that saving Penny Lancaster Stewart ahead of Gabby Logan in series five was the right thing to do.
9月21日 Strictly series six week one result: Phil Daniels is out
Actor Phil Daniels and his dance partner Flavia Cacace were voted out of Strictly Come Dancing series six on the week one results show. After the viewers' votes were counted and added to the judges' scores from Saturday, Phil and Flavia were one of the couples in the bottom two. They had scored 20 with the judges on Saturday's show. The dance-off And so the two couples did their best during the dance-off and the judges then had to vote for the couple they wanted to save. Here is how the voting went: Judge Craig: Phil and Flavia What do you think? Chef Gary Rhodes had managed just 17 points from the judges and yet thanks to viewers’ votes he escaped the dance-off. Have your say now by clicking the Add a Comment link below. As ever, I'd love to know what you think.
Strictly series six week one: judges’ comments and scores
A fun first week on Strictly Come Dancing 2008. The men performed their first dance and the women did a group routine. Austin Healey topped the leader board with an impressive 32. Chef Gary Rhodes had a shocker and ended up bottom with a lowly 17, including a score of 1 from judge Craig. Tom Chambers and Camilla Dallerup – cha cha cha Brucie: Wonderful. What a start to the show. Our view: A confident-looking performance, particularly for the first dance of the first week. Blogger’s wife: A reasonable start but very ugly arms and hands. Head judge Len Goodman: Great hip action. I thought you danced that absolutely great. Great job. Judge Bruno Tonioli: You had the confidence of a tom cat claiming his new territory and there were a few kittens purring round here. As a first outing it was commendable. Judge Craig Revel Horwood: Your hands were flat and shapeless, the cha cha cha walks were a little bit mincey. Judge Arlene Phillips: There was magic movement in those hips. You need to work on your arms and your upper body. 6 7 8 7 = 28 Phil Daniels and Falvia Cacace – waltz Brucie: Lovely, Phil. Our view: Ooh, no. Too rigid. Blogger’s wife: Disappointing dress [it was yellow. Blogger’s wife doesn’t like that]. The performance from Mr Park Life looked wooden and Flavia looked like she was leading him. Head judge Len: The movement was very good. You’ve got to work on your hold and your posture. Judge Bruno: For a bit of rough you scrub up well. It was a bit shaky and unsteady. Judge Craig: The steps were all there but it lacked any grace for me. Judge Arlene: You need to introduce your left foot to your right foot and bring them together. 4 5 6 5 = 20 Don Warrington and Lilia Kopylova – cha cha cha Brucie: It was lovely, thank you. Our view: Some potential somewhere deep down in there. Lilia always does a good cha cha cha but Don was not doing enough of the work; too much standing around while she does all the moves. Blogger’s wife: The music and choreography were fantastic but he’s lacking some technical ability. Most enjoyable dance so far. Judge Bruno: You started with more wrong turns and twists than Gordon Brown’s cabinet but the end was better than the beginning. Judge Craig: Some timing issues. Very flat footed, shoulders raised almost all the way through it. Judge Arlene: It was sort of rising and going damp. Where was the actor? Head judge Len: Welcome to Strictly Come Dancing. I thought you were brave doing that whole section in front of the judges. 3 5 6 5 = 19 Brucie tells them they’re his favourites. Austin Healey and Erin Boag – waltz Brucie: What about it? Our view: That’s more like it. Terrific. If he can do Latin dances he’s going to be a leading contender. Blogger’s wife: I loved Erin’s outfit and her new hair colour. A beautiful waltz, very light on his feet. Judge Craig: I am surprised. Graceful, elegant and really clean lines. I thought it was great. Judge Arlene: Austin Healey – rugby player and car. You certainly know how to drive a waltz. Head judge Len: The best first dance for a man I have ever seen. Judge Bruno: Soft and gentle, Mr Sentimental.
7 8 9 8 = 32 Mark Foster and Hayley Holt – waltz Brucie: You’re from New Zealand, Hayley? I’ve always liked your butter. Our view: I was expecting better from Mark than this. Uninspiring. Blogger’s wife: Lacked performance. It had something missing, probably his lack of belief in himself as a dancer. Judge Arlene: Your whole body is a costume. You move beautifully around the floor but you’ve got to think ‘gold medal, gold medal’ because there was no attitude. Head judge Len: You danced with great control. Work on your footwork. Judge Bruno: You’re so imposing you look like a God; now you have to dance like one. You have to engage the audience and invite us into the performance. Judge Craig: D-U-L-L, dull. That has to be one of the most boring waltzes I’ve ever seen. 3 6 7 6 = 22 Gary Rhodes and Karen Hardy – cha cha cha Brucie: What about it? Yes, it’s over. Our view: No, no, no, no, no. This is not good. And why does Karen insist on these silly, silly bits of choreography? What was that making pasta nonsense all about? It’s not clever. It’s not imaginative. It’s just ridiculous. She did the same thing with Mark Ramprakash in series four with that daft pattercake business in her otherwise excellent salsa routine (of course, he could move unlike poor Gary so they got away with it). Just stop it, please. Stop it now. Blogger’s wife: It was unpleasant to watch. Head judge Len: On a positive note, you went for it. Not enough hip action but a brave performance. Judge Bruno: Sometimes you looked like the mad chef in the Muppet Show. Judge Craig: Well I don’t want to be vile. You went wrong at the beginning and it went downhill from there. The arms were random and awkward. Judge Arlene: For sheer energy and performance you delivered. But Karen get a firm whisk and whip those feet into shape. 1 5 6 5 = 17
John Sergeant and Kristina Rihanoff – waltz Brucie: A star is born Our view: Well done, John. Not exactly on his toes but easily better than Phil and Mark. Good for him. Blogger’s wife: I thoroughly enjoyed it. The second best waltz of the night. Judge Bruno: It was like watching Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. I found it a very endearing performance. Judge Craig: A very warm and honest performance. I did feel you were engaged in the dance. Judge Arlene: I’m so thrilled you’ve shared a little bit of that brain with your feet. You look like you want to dance. Head judge Len: Understated, quiet and charming. 5 5 6 6 = 22 Andrew Castle and Ola Jordan – cha cha cha Brucie: Absolutely wonderful. Our view: Dodgy arms. Blogger’s wife: He’s got potential. Ugly arms and hands, though. Judge Craig: It was a little bit stiff for me. Judge Arlene: A double first: first show, first GMTV presenter that’s got rhythm. Head judge Len: Great potential. Needs a bit more energy. Judge Bruno: Compared with Fiona and Kate you’re Fred Astaire. 4 6 7 6 = 23 Group dance The female celebrities and their dance partners did a routine that hasn’t lasted in my memory. Gillian, Jessie and Jodie looked less than comfortable and based on that alone I’d say one of them must surely be going out next week. Heather, Christine and Cherie gave good performances and look like they will be around for at least few weeks. And that was Saturday night week one. A good show to start off the new series.
We’ll be back with the result on Sunday night – around 9pm. In the meantime keep adding your views by clicking the Add a Comment link below.
9月20日 Strictly series six week one leader boardHere are the scores from week one of Strictly Come Dancing 2008:

9月18日 FW: Strictly week one previewAre you ready for week one of Strictly Come Dancing series six 2008? I can't wait. Here's what to expect on Saturday September 20: One male dancer will exit after performing either a waltz or a cha cha cha, while the girls strut their stuff in a group dance. John Sergeant has been the bookies' favourite to leave the show first. Can he overcome the odds? Will a dodgy cha cha cha from one his rivals save his bacon? I wish him well as I do enjoy his sense of humour but I fear he could be in for a mauling from the judges. Here's how the format will work for the following weeks: In week two, one female dancer will exit after performing a salsa or foxtrot, while the men perform a group number. In week three, another male dancer will exit and the female dancers will perform another group number. In week four, another female dancer will go and the male dancers will perform another group number. From week five onwards, all couples compete together in a bid to impress the judges and the audience at home to stay out of the bottom two places on the leaderboard. The two couples in the bottom two places will have to face the dreaded dance-off and, as last year, the judges will decide whose dancing days are over. In the event of a tie, head judge Len Goodman will have the casting vote. BRING IT ON!!!!!!! As usual we'll bring you the scores and opinions that matter plus news of the first contestant to leave the show. 9月13日 Strictly preview reviewSaturday 13's Strictly Come Dancing series six preview was fun. It kicked off with a recap of series five, which for me was the best so far. Then the 16 celebs and their dance partners for the 2008 show were introduced. No earth shattering revelations but it puts you in the mood for what's ahead. The glitz, the glamour, the pain, the pressure, the nerves, the dodgy dance moves of the early weeks... And there were some lingering shots of Mark Foster's well chiselled chest which will please some viewers, I'm sure. There was a brief snippet of the press launch; it didn't include me but that's probably a good thing. Brucie and Tess did their bit as did the judges. And that was that. So now the phoney war is drawing to a close and week one is getting ever closer. The show starts at 6:10pm on Saturday September 20.
9月10日 Strictly Come Dancing preview show Saturday Sept 13Given all the 'coming soon' trailers the Beeb is running right now you'd be forgiven for thinking that this Saturday's show is the first round of Strictly Come Dancing series six.
It isn't.
It's the preview show.
Should be good.
Of course, I am wondering whether they will show some footage from the press launch I attended. They might leave that to It Takes Two as they did last year. Either way the key question I am sure you're asking yourselves is whether they will provide another unnecessary close-up of my groin. If you missed last year's saga here is the link to the blog post. Enjoy.
Here's the blurb about the preview show from the Beeb's site:
Strictly Come Dancing Launch
Sat 13 Sep, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm 60mins
Find out who will be slipping into their dance shoes and slapping on a few sequins with a sneak preview of the couples in the run up to the first live show next Saturday. There's also a special behind the scenes look at the making of the series and the chance to catch up with our professional dancers to discover what they get up to when they're not appearing on the show.
9月7日 Poland wins Eurovision Dance ContestOn Saturday September 6 the second Eurovision Dance Contest took place in Glasgow.
This year pro-celeb couples from 14 countries participated.
The UK was represented by sctress Louisa Lytton and pro dancer Vincent Simone (they danced together in Strictly Come Dancing 2006, you'll recall). The pair performed well enough but fell foul of the judges' rather odd scoring. The telephone vote did not help them either and they finished in mid-table.
Lithuania performed the best routine in my view but Poland won the contest. This was an OK outcome as the Polish couple danced well but I can't see what link the Michael Jackson part of their routine had with anything traditionally Polish. To be fair, there seemed to be a lot of tenuous connections to country traditions despite this being a stipulation of the competition.
Anyway, it was better than last year's nonsense but I'm still not convinced it is a winner as an international show and I'm not sure it is going to catch on. Time will tell.
Stricly judges Len Goodman and Craig Revel Horwood provided the Terry Wogan-esque voice overs during the show which gave us a taster of things to come on Strictly 2008.
The show was hosted by Graham Norton and It Takes Two's Claudia Winkleman.
As for Winkleman's choice of outfit, I shall leave it to Amanda who sent me the following message:
"Whose dress was Claudia wearing on this show? It clearly wasn't hers, far too small."
Well put, Amanda. I couldn't agree more.
Gluttons for punishment will be delighted to know that the Eurovision Dance Contest website provides a wealth of useful information about the competition.
Let's get serious
Right, enough of the imitator shows. Bring on Strictly Come Dancing series six 2008.
PS
For whose benefit was Graham Norton randomly translanting parts of the show into French? France wasn't competing nor was Switzerland or Belgium.
9月5日 Tess Daly: the first series six hair updateIn my never-ending quest to bring you the most important Strictly Come Dancing news here is the first Tess Daly (everyone's favourite newspaper) hair update.
You'll recall how in series five she went for a distressing 'straight-plus-fringe look like a teenager' approach.
Well I'm pleased to say that this phase is a thing of the past.
I'm sure a hair stylist would say something like: "It's got a lot more body and volume." But I'm not the expert on this stuff.
The publicity pic for series six is below and it was similar at the press launch last week.
9月3日 Mark Foster doing what he does bestAs you probably heard on our first Strictly podcast of this season, MSN TV editor Lorna Cooper got a bit flustered when talking about Strictly Come Dancing series six celeb contestant (and hunk) Mark Foster.
Can't imagine why.
I see him every day on the London Underground. So I thought I'd better take a photo of him.
