Zoe Lucker Is Out Of Strictly Come Dancing 2009

In a dramatic result, Footballers' Wives actress Zoe Lucker lucked out and became the seventh celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2009.

You can join in the hot debate about this result and see what everyone else is saying about it in our comments section below.

    Zoe Lucker and James Jordan

    The judges’ scores
After all the couples had performed the leader board looked like this:

    Ricky and Natalie – 39
    Jade and Ian – 35
    Ali and Brian – 33
    Laila and Anton – 33
    Zoe and James – 32
    Natalie and Vincent – 30
    Phil and Katya – 30
    Chris and Ola – 29
    Ricky and Erin – 24
    Craig and Flavia – 24

    The dance-off
After the viewers’ votes were added to the judges’ leader board Ali and Brian and Zoe James were, unbelievably, in the bottom two.

Their dance-off performances were not as good as earlier in the evening. No matter, the judges had to decide.

    The judges voted as follows:

    Judge Craig: Ali and Brian

    Judge Alesha:  Zoe and James

    Judge Bruno:  Ali and Brian

Head judge Len: Ali and Brian

So out went Zoe and James

(Our thanks to the ever brilliant Miss Bubbles for doing the live blog – you can read her comments in the previous post)

My full review of Saturday night’s performances:

As usual we have Brucie’s reaction, our view, blogger’s wife’s opinion, a summary of the judges’ views and the scores.

Natalie Cassidy and Vincent Simone – jive

Brucie: What about them? Come here.

Our view: She made it fun in the first section but I felt it lost the energy half-way through.

Blogger’s wife: Her dress was a lovely colour but Natalie has been let down by the costume department failing to give her dresses that flatter her. Not the best jive I’ve ever seen not sharp and fast enough.

Judge Craig: That was absolutely unbelievable. Your get up and go is incredible. However, your free arm looks very, very lonely. Very light, very nimble and very good.

Head judge Len: Started off full energy. Then you went into your quieter mode, I thought the whole package was fabulous.

Judge Alesha: You captured the spirit of the jive. Your energy and enthusiasm is infectious. Just control your arms a little bit more.

Judge Bruno: You have a fire cracker up your bum. That is a performance. That is the focus and energy you have to maintain. Now you have proved you can do it.

    7 8 7 8 = 30

Ali Bastian and Brian Fortuna – paso doble

Brucie: What about that? A classical paso doble.

Our view: Good music choice as I do not like the paso danced to pop music. They danced it well but somehow it didn’t feel like a paso should – lack of drive, attack and aggression.

Blogger’s wife: The only part of their costumes I liked were Brian’s trousers which were just neutral. They danced it beautifully but it didn’t have the aggression I’d liked to have seen.

Judge Bruno: This was beautiful. It was glistening like a bejeweled cape in the Spanish sun. But it had a lyrical quality that is not quite right for the paso doble. Nobody would mistake you for a bull but you have to get that kind of energy.

Judge Craig: I was holding my breath all the way through that because I can see the bruising on your foot and I really feel for you because I know that must have been horrific. I loved the way you danced it. Clean, accomplished but I did think it did lack a bit of earth, wind and fire.

Head judge Len: You’re a very talented dancer and you danced that beautifully. And I must congratulate you Brian for the lovely bit of choreography you produced. As much as I loved it, you were a little bit straight-legged on occasion and it did lack a bit of aggression about it but I felt you were portraying the cape more and I thought you did a beautiful job.

Judge Alesha: You danced it well Ali but I want to see you use your acting skills more. Whenever I see you dance I always feel you’re a bit fragile, you always have this worried look in your face. The paso is the dance where you really need to take control. Your turns were impressive, great shaping and probably the best arm work I’ve seen from any female celebrity.

    8 9 8 8 = 33

Craig Kelly and Flavia Cacace – waltz

Brucie: Well that looked pretty good to me. What have you done to him?

Our view: Some improvement and good on him for that but that’s as much as I can say.

Blogger’s wife: Good outfits. An improvement on his previous stage but for week seven not good enough.

Judge Alesha: Week seven and finally, Craig, I’ve seen something that I like from you. I couldn’t help smiling when you were smiling there. That’s what the waltz does, doesn’t it? You kept good body contact throughout. Nice to see your left arm wasn’t fighting with Flavia this time and you’re starting to look more comfortable.

Judge Bruno: I found it very labored. The rise and fall was so forced. I don’t think you can dance that’s all I can say at this stage.

Judge Craig: Leaps and bounds ahead of what you did last week. But it still needs a lot of work. I think at one point Flavia actually stood on your foot but I am finally seeing some progression.

Head judge Len: Of course there was the odd mistake. I know you want to get to Blackpool and if determination and trying hard was all you needed you’d be halfway up the M1.

    5 7 7 5 = 24

Chris Hollins and Ola Jordan – cha cha cha

Brucie: Come on, what about it? Well done, well done.

Our view: That was good fun and he’s got his act together again. Slightly stilted beginning but picked up after that.

Blogger’s wife: Nice to see the return of the Ola catsuit. A bit slow but really liked the track they chose although I’m not sure how appropriate it was for a cha cha cha.

Head judge Len: You were shaking your groove thing old soldier. Much more lively. A bit skippy. You’re right back to where you were week one.

Judge Alesha: Yes, you came out and performed it but I’d liked to have seen a bit more content. I’d like to shut your mouth with some tape because you’re counting and it’s off-putting.

Judge Bruno: You bring the energy on. You’ve got the sense of rhythm. Everything has to go into a focused performance not just one or two things

Judge Craig: A bit cha cha chunky. Lost your hip action but it had an amazing dynamic and fantastic timing. A fine endeavour, my love.

    7 8 7 7 = 29

Jade Johnson and Ian Waite – foxtrot

Brucie: Oh, it was elegant, elegant, elegant.

Our view: Well, that’s easily the best of the dances so far tonight. She really nailed that, great performance.

Blogger’s wife: Lovely, lovely dance. Delighted to see Ian had his haircut. Jade had a lovely dress, shame it was yellow.

Judge Craig: Your heel got caught in your dress. Lovely kicks, movement around the floor was gorgeous.

Head judge Len: I thought the dress thing was a trick and the whole performance was a treat, well done.

Judge Alesha: You made a difficult dance look easy. Well done.

Judge Bruno: Oh my fair Jade. Long, smooth, elegant with a twinkle in the eye, I loved it.

    8 9 9 9 = 35

Zoe Lucker and James Jordan – samba

Brucie: Wonderful. Oh, Zoe, did you shake it?

Our view: She’s done that well and unlike most Strictly sambas I enjoyed watching it.

Blogger’s wife: I hope the choker keeps her out of the dance-off [the only week Zoe didn’t wear a choker was the week she ended up in the dance-off] because it was better than most of the sambas from last week.

Head judge Len: You’re always good but very occasionally great. I think you have the potential to challenge the top couples but nerves get in your way.

Judge Alesha: I liked all that gyrating. It’s nice to see you let go.

Judge Bruno: I am loving it when you get down with your feather duster. Sometimes you get there and sometimes you don’t.

Judge Craig: The bounce action was missing but you had enormous amount of rhythm and your timing was very, very good. A bit more animal in there.

    7 8 9 8 = 32

Erin Boag and Ricky Groves – rumba

Brucie: What about this? Hollywood have been on the phone.

Our view: I thought he looked good. Nice combination of outfit and music. I liked this more than his effort last week.

Blogger’s wife: I really enjoyed it. Well choreographed.

Judge Alesha: You’ve been taken out of your comfort zone. You acted your way through. It wasn’t a bad effort.

Judge Bruno: Daniel Craig has got nothing to worry about. The hip action was terrible. It’s not your dance.

Judge Craig: I thought that sliding doors variation was very awkward. The entire routine was very conceited.

Head judge Len: This is such a hard dance for the guys and I don’t think him [Craig] or him [Bruno] appreciate that.

    4 8 7 5 = 24

Laila Rouass and Anton du Beke – Viennese waltz

Brucie: Yes, yes, yes. Come along then. So beautiful.

Our view: Charming. You could see she was relaxed and enjoying it.

Blogger’s wife: Beautiful outfit and beautifully danced.

Judge Craig: A classic Viennese with a modern twist. Thank goodness you’re back in hold. Delightful.

Head judge Len: Bring this quality, confidence and joy of dancing to your Latin.

Judge Alesha: Great combination a bit skippy at times but I loved it.

Judge Bruno: This is the kind of performance we have to see in the Latin.

    8 9 8 8 = 33

Phil Tufnell and Katya Virshilas – tango

Brucie: Up you come Phil. She’s pleased with you. You might get a saucer of milk.

    Our view: Eminently watchable. Entertaining.

    Blogger’s wife: Really enjoyed it.

Judge Bruno: I am happy to see you came out and did a dance full of content. You see you don’t need to shake your bum all the time but a great, great improvement.

Judge Craig: Choreographically it was great but the music gave you a lyrical sense which meant you were rising and falling.

Head judge Len: Learning the routine is the only the start. Work on the character and polishing the dance, spend a few more hours on it

Judge Alesha: Tricky routine, I liked it.

    7 7 8 8 = 30

Ricky Whittle and Natalie Lowe – quickstep.

Brucie: What about that. A wonderful routine.

Our view: Great music. Great performance.

Blogger’s wife: Once again he looked like a professional. Very well done.

Head judge Len: The best dance of series seven.

Judge Alesha: You were in a league of your own. Beautifully executed, wonderful routine.

Judge Bruno: Take it away Ricky. You never went wrong.

Judge Craig: Bandy legs and pigeon toed but that has never stopped Brendan Cole from dancing and I have to say: absolutely amazing.

    9 10 10 10 = 39

I sometimes feel like I am watching a different programme to the judges! Ali and Brian's dance was laboured and stiff at times, and she made several mistakes. There's no way it was worth 33 ... oh, but let's not forget that the judges don't have favourites?! Zoe and James' samba didn't really do much for me, and her gyrating made me cringe. Again, I think it was over-marked.

That said, I don't think either of them should have been in the dance off. Seems that Craig Kelly and his constant bleating about birthdays and Blackpool (not to mention Tess and Claudia who also layed it on with a trowel) have won the hearts of the great British public. It should have been Craig in the dance off with Chris/Natalie/Ricky G or possibly even Tuffers, with Craig voted unanimously off.

He constantly surprises me that he thinks he has done well and then does the shocked look when they tell him he can't dance. How can he possibly think he can dance when he see Ricky W/Jade/Laila/Zoe or Ali? He hasn't improved much at all and it's painful to watch. This week was just about ok, but not week 7 standard and certainly not better than Zoe or Ali.

I so hope the public don't vote for him again this week.

Yes it's me again! I must just add a couple of things that i failed to mention previously. Firstly I completely agree with the general consensous on this blog that I am sick and tired of Craig 'sob-story' Kelly, yes we know Blackpool is your home town but now your going to go even further and embaress Flavia even more by mentioning it's your birthday and getting Tess to beg for you too! Disgraceful. On a more positive note however, the professional dancers did themselves proud once again, i particularly enjoyed Matthew and Aliona's Sexy Samba! Tremendous dar-ling! Strictly is an amazing show but there does seem to be a sad pattern emerging. I beseech you members of the pulic, is this a dance contest or a popularity poll?!

Once again James is out of the competition long before he should be! Zoe Lucker was one of the most accomplished celebrities on the show and I personally think it is an outrage that she has gone! Week after week she gave consistent performances and no matter how nervous she was she always produced enjoyable and competent dances. I think if she had stayed in she could have gone all the way! x

Claire has the right idea but, unfortunately, the BBC are loving the uproar results like this brings. I, for one, won't be tuning in to watch a load of flat-footed hoofers. Take out the talent and the show is dead on its feet! I would like to see more time given to the public voting, like in the last series. Moreso I would like to see and end to Craig's turn around the dance floor - he's out of his league. Zoe was in the dance-off twice, though her ballroom was elegant and her latin, sound. The judges should be applauded this week, they got it about right and, yes, I do have my favourites but if they're s**t I wouldn't save them - credit where it's due, people.

I agree with Nirankar ...Aliona and Matthews samba was STUNNING ! Wow! For me the best professionals on the show (as a pair) are Matthew and Aliona (the hip action these two have is unbelievable LOL), and Kristina (she really gives it her all when dancing!) and Brian.
Anyway, enough of the proffessionals...I concur with the majority of these comments as I too was devasted when I heard Craigs name called out first. Though we cannot argue with the public as to be honest the bottom two are the celebrities generally who have had less dominent careers! (Had to be said)
Out of the two I definately would have prefered Zöe to stay as I hate the ''worried'' look constantly plastered on Ali's face, as mentioned by Allisha. It does my head in!

I am very disappointed about the results of last nights show. This is getting so bad now, James and Zoe were fab and didnot deserve to go out! Craig should be happy he got to Blackpool! But next week he should be voted off!! The BBC must change the voting for next year, as I cannot understand how a couple got 32 points and are still voted off! Lesley

for the same reason that john sargeant got far last year, the british public love supporting the underdog, and nothing is going to change that if the public still have voting power. didn't the producers say last year they were going to change the format to avoid this sort of thing? what craig should do next week is say 'use the vote that you'd use for me on the other dancers' - he's got to blackpool now, he's had a good run. it was james i felt sorry for last night - it reminded me of when he was partnered with gabby logan - the producers have to pair him with a super-popular celebrity next year.

PS - why are the professional dances and performances at the end of the show neglected on this blog? matthew and aliona's samba was the best thing on the show!

I agree entirly with Bridget Kirby`s safe dance scores. If you have 30/32 from judges it should be automatic to go thro. With the bottom 4 put to a public vote.

New voting system.32 and above ur safe 2 dance nxt week.Below 32 it goes to the public vote, then we dont get John's, Chris's etc in the Final and the Mr Cha Cha Cha Craig would have to improve his markings.By wk 8&9 its crucial we get the right people heading towards the Final.its a competition & people should vote with their eyes & not their hearts. it makes better viewing and less controversey.

I said it last year and i'll say it again now, the only way to stop this farce is to change the rules so that the public can only vote on which of the bottom 4 couples they want to save. That way the viewers get to participate and the judges who actually know about dancing have more input. I am gutted about last night, Craig Kelly should be feeling disgusted with himself today.

i am dissapointed by lasts nights results - i have been team zoe and james from the beginning. I thought they were better in the dance off then ali and brian but then she made all that fuss about her foot. All that needs to happen now is for jedward to get through over joe and my disaster weekend of reality TV will be complete!!
I would like to point out that I don't actually vote for any of these things which is why I'm not that bothered. All of the celebs have watched the show before and are more than aware of how the public like to vote.......John Sargent springs to mind!!! They get paid what ever happens

Craig Kelly's still in it coz people voted for his personality?
    WHAT PERSONALITY?
God help us, we've got a General Election coming up next year.
Giving the majority of the moronic public a vote is like giving a kid a box of matches in an oil refinery.
The BBC should stop treating sensible people with contempt, we still want Arlene back and we want the good dancers to stay in not those with 'pass the sick bucket' sob stories who cannot deliver what they're supposed to do.
The BBC must either take away the public's voting rights and leave it to the judges or we should all vote for James next year, no matter who he's with, so the British sense of fairness wins through in the end.

are people stupid why the ~@/% have people voted for 2 of the best dancers in the competition. Ali probably the best natural dancer i have ever seen, (and i should know i'm an instructor) and Zoe brought a touch of class to almost every performance. Its a sad day coz both deserved to be going further, although on balance right decision as Ali rocks. Thinking us boys need to pick up the phone coz ali is gorgeous and i'm thinking her and ricky Wittle in the final would be great TV. However you guys saying its a disgrace need to stop and think its a popularity contest, not whose the best dancer!

If it was not already patently clear (since this programme first began) this can never be taken seriously as a fair and just case of the best dancers winning ultimately.
Whilst to some degree 'opinion' may create a problem where judgment determines the outcome of competitions such as dance it is a disgrace when dancers who are not even close to being the poorest performers on the night are eliminated.
In my view, in the interest of fairness the public at large should be eliminated. The public should have no input whatsoever in the outcome of this competition. The quality of dancing clearly has little or no influence on the way the majority of the public vote.
The credibility of 'Strictly' has suffered yet again, and is rapidly becoming synonymous with injustice.

I actually felt sick watching the results, and no I ain't being melodramatic...

As the lights just dimmed one by one I just knew it was going to be a result that just wouldn't happen outside of 'reality' TV... I knew the public wouldn't dare to vote out Craig on his birthday and with his Blackpool fixation, thougt it was going to be Ricky Groves and Natalie Cassidy in the dance-off... oh wait scrap that, I was thinking rationally...

I might stop watching the programme especially if anoter one of the best goes out at that stage. (Hopefully) having a favourite (Ali) in the bottom two will stop this insane voting system (sympathy votes) otherwise it's a waste of effort, budget and the professional dancers if the final two couples are just there on 'personality'.

Btw, am dreading tonight's X-Factor result as its going to be someone who doesn't deserve it going out, same as it always is...

I thought Ricky Groves and Erin did a fabulous Rumba, his shoulders were down and his hands were better and their mark was apalling! Ricky Whittles' quickstep was brilliant..loved every step................but the wrong two couple's were in the dance off! Personally, I loved the traditional Paso........that's what I remember learning as a kid and it struck a chord! And to come out in the dance-off in bare feet was remarkably brave! Of the two in the dance-off I'd have voted the same way.........much as I loved Zoe & James .........Ali & Brian were better! And, Jon, no we are not forgetting the poularity aspect.........it's just that some of us really appreciate the complexities of dancing!
