NO NAME I keep seeing you on these Blogs, and I have noticed that the same dates a few minutes apart you will have made contradictry comments. IE 1/ Rachel and Vincent was robbed, 2/ Toms dance was amazing and although Rachels was technically good it was lacking something. uh? What's that all about, are you just getting people to argue and comment????? My own view is Tom deserved to win and I would say the same of Rachel if she had won. They were both better dancers than any of the others, including Lisa.. Pity they could'nt have given it to them both.
I think the judges undermarked Tom throughout the series, (perhaps to make room for Austin?) but overall he was the more likeable entertaining performer, and his dancing was enjoyable when Rachels could be slightly boring. Tom's show dance was original and I loved it.
Tom's victory was down to the public vote, and although people have been saying they could not get through to vote for Rachel perhaps they were not trying hard enough. The lines were very busy and with perseverence and a redial button you could get through. Tom put his heart and soul into this series and I think that came across which is why he won and deservedly so.
As for Rachel & Lisa, well girls you have not done your self any favours with the public by the comments you made have you?
I think the only unfairness is the outcry at Tom's victory when there wasn't one against Darren Gough, (who was also third in the final when Zoe was better than him all the way through the competition), and no-one complained when Matt got through the semi last year when he bombed.
Yes tom won but I think the reason for some viewers (I can not speak for all) and mine not accepting his victory is because if two couples were to go through to the final as normal on SCD he would not of been one of those, reason for that was he had a low score and low votes and his dances were not that strong for the semi final. His show dance was good but so was Rachel's, they just both have different styles of dance he one suited him very much, but he was not consistence with his performances through the night and Rachel was. All the celebraties male or female have a hard job in learning the hold, stance and steps and we should appreciate that. My personal opinion is that Tom did look like every week he was living out his dream and because it was so apparent it won the viewers over. Rachel also had a love for the dance but she did seem shy but I think Lisa got to competitve near the end and viewers saw that, that is never pretty...lol
The people bemoaning Tom's victory are probably exactly the same ones who insisted John Sergeant had every right to stay in the competition. By that same right and by those same rules, Tom won because he received the highest viewer vote in the semi final and the final. There was a national outcry at the time against the judges, now these same people are in effect, supporting who the judges favoured. The public are very fickle. Shame on them for souring Tom's great victory. Had he not won I have no doubt he would have been the gentleman that Austin was. Rachel and Lisa on the other hand have already been whining to the media.
Tom's showdance was amazing, whilst Rachels' was technically very good it lacked that special something. I have loved this series of SCD, and delighted Tom won - he took the most joy out of dancing, the girls were a bit too serious for my liking. Austin was great too!
Thanks for doing this blog, Matt. I've really enjoyed reading it on a Monday whilst I'm desperately avoiding doing any work! The reader's comments are also pretty entertaining! I was glad with the result-and now I'm really looking forward to the Christmas special.
Merry Christmas Matt, Urs and Katie (yeah, I also read your other blog) xx
OK. These are the last comments that I am going to make...until next years SCD.
SCD is an entertainment show built around dance. Both elements are combined. ~ The judges give their professional opinions and mark on the technique. ~ The public vote on the entertainment and their enjoyment.
NB - when Tess & Bruce invite the public to phone in they say 'that's the judges opinon, but you can change all that' 'vote to save your favourite', 'who do you want to see next week?', 'who goes through, you decide', 'if you want to see XXX dance again next week, then pick up the phone'.
They do not say 'vote for the most technically proficient dancer'.
Until the final, it is the judges that vote on dance skill, via the dance off. In the final the public decide, as I think it should be, seeing as the BBC is a public service broadcaster.
Can anybody say that this method did not result in the best 4 dancers (technique or entertainment) making it through to the qtr finals? Austin, Lisa, Rachel & Tom...
I got annoyed with the judges, press etc banging on about John Seargent. Although better dancers went out before him, they would still have gone out as they were not as technically good or entertaining enough. In effect the other dancers only left a week earlier than if John had gone. (Because once he was out the others would have been picked off, as evidenced when the judges told Christine in no uncertain terms that she was not good enough.) Despite the hype, there is no way that John would have won SCD, because he is not ultimately what people enjoy in the show.
Anyway, it's all over now. Have a mince pie, a glass of wine and enjoy Christmas.
Despite the killjoys, Tom and Austin bought something different to the show. They both paid a warm tribute to their wives, never done before, family values are the backbone of society. Austin's daughters were gorgeous, what a beautiful sight his baby twin daughters were. Tom and his wife's selfless devotion to each other is rare sight in this generation.
This is part of why the public warmed, in sharp contrast to Rachel and Lisa who just sold us their sexuality, ambition and desperation. The public prefer real men who hold dear to values rather than female roues and tarts. Camilla and Erin show us how it should be done. Take note Vincent, Strictly is a family show and should set an example to children so please don't give us raunchy routines next year, we like to see wholesome dancing.
Tom and Austin were also the better dancers, men have to lead, not be led. They have to lift, not be lifted.
The negative comments on
here against Tom’s victory are unfounded, he won according to the rules. Complain
to the BBC and ask them to change them if you don’t like it. The very nature of
the show allows for the many injustices there has been throughout its history
BUT THIS WASN’T ONE OF THEM.
The judges are not
infallible, it was ridiculous to give Lisa 80, Tom’s Latin was far better, he
moved his hips like a pro, ‘fun’ emanated from his whole being and screamed out
through the screen right into our living rooms, it must have been electric in
that audience. Does this mean Alesha’s Cha Cha Cha was not as good as Lisa’s
according to the judges? The judges are
human, they’re not capable to judge perfect judgment, only God Almighty can do
that.
The competition has been won
on the show dance before and I’m glad that was the case this year because last
year it wasn’t and Matt and Flavia’s was far superior.
Darren Gough won in the same
way, he was behind Zoe Ball and Colin Jackson all through the competition and
in the final and they were both far better than him, but there was no outcry when
he won.
Please stop moaning, it
takes the joy away from Tom’s victory.
I like the ode to James Jordan, men
are not real men today, they’re mostly wimps but James is one of the exceptions.
I thought this was an entertainment programme so the publc should decide who wins - the original Come Dancing was indeed a serious dance show so rightly the public had no say. The judges are right to make comments on the technical aspects but even their jusging is not always consistet with the views they expressed.
What a FARCE !!! PROFESSIONAL Judges award points for performance but the TOP points couple are eliminated because the AMATEUR public are better judges of dancing competence. The BBC should do away with points awards by judges, still ask them to make their professional comment during the progress of the weeks of the saga but allow the winner to be dictated by more knowledgable public or if they decide they truly want a Dancing Competition take the opposite course of action . Come Dancing in years gone by was not tarnished by prejudiced public interference in it's outcome.
i think tom and camilla deserved to win! he had to lead the girl round the dance floor, lifts while rachel was lifted round the floor.its totally different for the guy in dancing, its alot harder.and his last dance was amazing! they we're my favorites ha ha
I feel I've totally wasted the last 3 months on a so called 'dance competition'. If I'd known it was just a popularity contest, I'd of given Andrew Castle more support. Rachel was consistently better than Tom and deserved to win and was cheated of the trophy. How someone who came bottom of the judges leaderboard 2 weeks in a row and stumbled through their routine won is beyond me....... however, their show dance was amazing and the series has been fantastic.
Craig said: 'The last time you did the dance I thought you were a little smug,
but this time you were not and even the facial expressions were not too
much.'
Tom snapped back: 'Judge it on the dance please.'
That put him in his place!
Tom's show dance was spectacular, wholesome and fun. His salsa deserved four tens compared to Lisa's. Rachel's was more akin to gymnastics than dance and bordering on simulating the sexual act. Inappropriate for a family show.Bruce should not have interrupted Camilla when she was trying to thank her family.
I agree that Bruce is past his sell -by-date If you watch the American version Dancing with the Stars you will see a real proffessional compere. Every time Bruce opens his mouth I mute the TV. Let's get a younger more engaging compere who does not think it's HIS SHOW!
Bruce’s behaviour last night as a compere was appalling. He
couldn't keep his trap shut during Tom's speech, he interrupted someone else so
he could insult John Sergeant at the end, which was obviously so important to
him, he’s a complete embarrassment and totally undignified. In a previous warm
up show he insulted a 79 year old lady by telling her she hasn't worn well. He's
always got his laughs by being rude and insulting, why can't people see it? People
just pay him compliments because of his age but he doesn't deserve them. He
also can't sing in tune any more. It wasn't the Bruce Forsyth show, Put him out
to grass.
lol it makes me giggle when you say the best dancer won so what if tom was never in the dance off, the fact is he only once maybe twice got a dance actually right and if in the semi-finals the BBC had not bottled it tom would have been in the dance off and would have lost tbh, even the 12 year old girl who posted below understands this.
maybe next year the BBC should call it strictly come entertaining not dancing as that way i can totally agree with your metholigy, yes there dances may have been more entertaining or riskier but with that came the errors.
So may be Rachael and Lisa were 'technically' better dancers than Tom, but his dances were so much more enjoyable and fun - especially that show dance. What a brilliant performance, and a superb dance. Tom and Camilla are well-deserved winners - that is what Stricly is all about.
Indeed the best dancer won without a shadow of a doubt. The judges have consistantly undermarked Tom the whole competition. Rachael's show dance was a bit predictable as was Lisa's, both way too obvious and going for the ahhhhhhhh beautiful votes...... again. Tom and Camilla always drove on trying new things, keeping it entertaining and fun and not playing safe. We all had our favourites, Lisa and Rachael were worthy finalists but Tom was always a cut above the others as was seen in the group disco dance weeks ago. The boy has all the moves.
i think rachel steven s should of won because she got all the good marks from the judges un like tom he got all the personality votes and thats how he won because the public are thinking stricly come personality but its actually called stricly come dancing and i wuld like to see a change aroound here because its not good at all voting for personality they let us vote because they want us to vote for the dancing ,timing, music and specially all the judges comments cause they know what they are talking about they have been all over the world judging what i have just said not the personality or if it does not change then NO VOTING IT WILL BE DOWN TO THE JUDGES CAUSE THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS THANX FOR READING AND ITS BEEN TYPED BY A PROFESSIONAL 12 YEARR OLD GIRL DANCER MIXED WITH A ROYAL DANCER AND IF U WANT TO KNOW MORE PLEASE EMAIL ME AT stephsid@hotmail.co.uk
